Artisanal Excellence
Our collaboration with contemporary artist Naminapu Maymuru-White stood out as a highlight of the Encounters section. Their joint installation, Larrakitj Forest (2024), was a mesmerizing fusion of traditional Himalayan carpet-making techniques and contemporary artistic expression. The swirling patterns in the carpets reinterpreted traditional esoteric symbols and dragon scales through a modern lens, symbolizing boundless power amidst chaos. Their work played a key role in celebrating Nepalese craftsmanship and offering a profound commentary on interdependence and cultural interconnectedness.
The installation resonated deeply with audiences on Art Basel’s theme for “Encounters,” “I am a part of all that I have met,” which aimed to break traditional exhibition boundaries and immerse audiences in unique artistic experiences. Mt Refuge’s contribution exemplified this ethos by blending ancient techniques with forward-thinking design, creating a dialogue between heritage and modernity.

Mt Refuge has long been synonymous with luxury and authenticity. Each carpet is meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans in Kathmandu, using Tibetan handwoven techniques passed down generations. Our philosophy centers on sustainability and ethical production, ensuring that every piece not only exudes elegance but also supports local communities.
At Art Basel Hong Kong 2024, this commitment to excellence was evident in every thread, with intricate designs drawing inspiration from Nepalese mythology and spirituality, offering visitors a glimpse into the rich cultural tapestry of the Himalayas.
